Siao liao
This is what you mutter when you realize you've royally messed up or when a situation has turned into a total disaster. Itβs the sound of your heart sinking when you see the long queue at the stall during peak hour, or when you realize you left your wallet at home. Essentially, it means 'we are finished' or 'this is pure madness'.
Origin
Literal translation: "crazy already"
Comes from Hokkien, combining 'siao' (crazy) and the particle 'liao' (already) to signal that a state of insanity or ruin has been reached.
